Hello All and welcome back to Tech Thursday!
It looks as if we (human kind) may be closer and closer to having the movie iRobot (IMDb) become a reality! There has been more and more discussion along with experiments concerning AI (Artificial Intelligence) this year than I have ever heard before. For those that may be unsure of what AI is, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines AI as “a branch of computer science dealing with the simulation of intelligent behavior in computers” and/or “the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior”.
AI has gained the attention of many technologist as well as everyday citizens, like myself. There is supporter such as Stanford University that wants to provide resources that will be fully committed to the development of AI. As stated in the Stanford News, “Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne said artificial intelligence has the potential to radically change how we live our lives. “Now is our opportunity to shape that future by putting humanists and social scientists alongside people who are developing artificial intelligence,” he said. ‘This approach aligns with Stanford’s founding purpose to produce knowledge for the betterment of humanity. I am deeply thankful to our supporters who are providing foundational funding for the institute, which is a critical element for our vision for the future of Stanford University’.”
Along with supports such as Stanford, there is also great concern and fear of what AI could grow into if not properly handled. Bill Gates (if you don’t know who he is, you may want to Google him) states, “First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern” (Futurism). Even though there is concern there, the ideology behind AI is still heavily supported.
Truthfully, my outlook on AI is pretty neutral. I know that some may think that isn’t a true position to be in but how I see it is ‘its happening’! I do not see a problem with AI especially being that technology is always changing. Innovation is necessary evolution! AI can contribute to the future of mankind by allowing accessibility to areas that may be deemed unsafe or providing accuracies to the inaccurate eye of a person. Even though I say that, I do not want AI to become the way of life or how we live. Let AI be a tool of assistance to mankind not a standard.
As I stated before, myself along with many others are truly interested in AI and the deployment of it. I have found some conference that can be attended for more information as well as demonstrations:
AI Conference(NY) * 558th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing (ICAISC) * Artificial Intelligence Conference in San Jose 2019 * The Applied AI Software Conference for Developers * 2019 Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Conferences * More and More Conferences! *
Although AI is a hot topic of discussion it is evident that this isn’t something just starting. What is your outlook or opinion on AI?
